About the Author
Chuck Slate, the author, was born in Connecticut. He and his wife Marilyn were married in December 1950. They celebrated their 50th anniversary in the year 2000. The plans were to spend it in Australia and New Zealand. They returned from that trip just before publishing of his second book. They renewed their marriage vows in front of the Captain of the cruise ship. Marilyn and Chuck have four birth children, three boys (including twins) and a girl. Chuck joined IBM in August 1956. The family moved several times because of Chuck's job. They have lived in Connecticut, New York, New Jersey, North Carolina and Virginia. Marilyn and Chuck also spent six months in England on temporary assignment.
Chuck has retired from three different discipines and has held jobs that range from dairy farming and electronic design to operating his own business. Since he last retired in 1991, Chuck has volunteered for a number of non-profit organizations. Chuck and Marilyn provided a home for foster children from 1992-2001, sometimes taking more than one at a time. The number of foster care placements during their fostering career was sixty.

CAUTION! Hillary America's First Dictator
This current book describes my belief (with input from a great many people) as to how this country got to where it is today, where I fear it is going, and my absolute terror that the American people will elect Hillary in 2008. Why terror at her election? Because that will launch the country toward a totalitarian government. We no longer can believe that our elected officials are patriots. They are more acclimated to power and less concerned about the people and the country's history.
The book is a departure from the others. It came to mind when watching a TV discussion group talking about whether Hillary would run for President in 2004. I was terrified that she would run and win. I then thought about it and decided I had some excellent reasons why she would not run in 2004 but would wait until 2008. The book goes into depth concerning the dangers to the Country of electing Hillary.
My first three books: "There Are No Bad Kids", "Never Underestimate the Arrogance or Stupidity of Government" and "High On Life" were all published by 1st Books Library. The first was written as a result of a traumatic experience in our lives and the second describes what I believe created that trauma. "High On Life" creates a completely different atmosphere. The title came as the result of one of my children becoming hooked on cocaine. I faithfully believe that no one needs a narcotic to get high-Life is the only high necessary!

THERE ARE NO BAD KIDS
This book was envisioned as a result of the author spending several years providing a home for kids who needed a home. There are many, many books written on the subject of 'at risk' children and/or foster children. Most, if not all, are written by clinical psychologists or other 'people of learning' who believe they are child advocates. NOT THIS ONE!
Read a book that tells it like it really is! This one is written from the point of view of a foster Dad who has lived with and loved 54 different foster child placements. The thoughts and experiences are honest, straight from the shoulder with no 'sugar coating.' When the system is wrong, it is pointed out with no reservations. The conventional thinking is in drastic need of change and the handling of children has become a bureaucratic nightmare. Much of the experiences with foster children can be applied to birth children, as well.
This book is the background to the book entitled “Never Underestimate the Arrogance or Stupidity of Government” which is the sequel. It was written to describe the facts in the mishandling of a foster child and his foster parents (my wife and I) by Social Services and the court system. NEVER UNDERESTIMATE the ARROGANCE
or STUPIDITY of GOVERNMENT
Chuck Slate and his wife Marilyn have been taking in foster children for some years. As a result of the actions of a ‘rogue’ local Social Services Agency, Chuck felt the need to author his second book entitled Never Underestimate The Arrogance Or Stupidity Of Government or In The Best Interests Of WHOM? The first sixteen chapters describe Chuck’s feelings concerning the moral decline of America. Chuck provides quotes and excerpts from many other people in the country concerning how our society has gotten to the sorry state that it presently enjoys. The final few chapters describe what effect these policies and actions have had on foster and adoptive children and their caregivers. The arrogance comes from the inability to see the mistakes made and the lack of correction can be called nothing but arrogance. The court system, including the Supreme Court, has lost its way. Chuck, in his straightforward and sometimes raucous manner, identifies the problems in society created by the various levels of government and the citizens themselves. Permissive parenting and a lack of a sense of family coupled with weak parents has also provided a strong negative aspect to society as a whole. HIGH ON LIFE – AN AUTOBIOGRAPHY
Chuck and his wife Marilyn were talking one day about some of their experiences. We decided that we had learned a great deal and had gone through some funny experiences, some agonizing experiences, some sad experiences and some absolutely hysterical experiences. I felt another book coming. Marilyn thought that would be a good idea. I talked it over with our children, expecting them to not think kindly of having parts of their life exposed. They all thought it was a great idea! There have been some really traumatic moments, especially in my kid’s lives. They all said, “Tell the truth!”
Chuck’s normal writing style (according to his way of thinking) is ‘talking in print.’ The only way he can write is how he speaks. Since I have been accused from time to time of being extremely opinionated my writing may be a little crude, “that’s Chuck!” One of his co-workers said, “When I first met Chuck, I thought he was crude, crass and rude. After working with him side by side for sometime I find he is none of those things – just highly opinionated and a terribly hard worker!” Chuck’s comment has always been, “at least you do not have to guess what I mean!”
